Kernersville Bulldogs Baseball
Three former Bulldog players played key roles in Belmont Abbey of Conference Carolinas upset victory of the Southeast Regional advancing to the College World Series at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Bulldog outfielder Tyler McKenzie paced the offensive attack while the arms of Andrew Morton and John Merritt carried the Crusaders. Morton hurled a nine inning complete game in the winners bracket final, with a 7-2 win over the #2 seed Francis Marion. John Merritt pitched seven innings in the championship game against top seeded USC-Aiken.

Five Bulldogs Selected In Amateur Draft
Cory Harrilchak of Elon University was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 14th round. Harrilchak, a former outfielder on the 2007 Bullodg squad, received many college awards including MVP in the Southern Conference. His 2007 teammate, CJ Beatty of North Carolina A&T and Glenn High School, was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 26th round. Beatty, an All-Meac performer, and Harrilchak still hold many Bulldog records.
Former Bulldog teammate pitchers Rhett Ballard and Corey Martin were also selected in the 2009 draft. Ballard, of Virginia Tech University and Southwest Guilford High School, was selected by the Coloroda Rockies in the 26th round. Corey Martin, of Western Carolina University and Forbush High School, went to the Chicago Cubs in the 27th round.
Derrick Lowery, left-hand hitting first baseman of Young Harris Junior College was selected in the 24th round by the Cincinnati Reds. Lowery was a member of the 2007 Bulldog squad.
