Strickland, Conrad Collect CVCL Post-Season Honors
The Carolina-Virginia
Collegiate League recently announced its recipients for the annual
post-season awards. The Kernersville Bulldogs were well represented
in the recognized group. The 2008 CVCL Defensive Player of the
Year was awarded to Kernersville Bulldog shortstop Josh Strickland.
Strickland, a leader of the Kernersville Bulldog defense, was
outstanding all season making routine plays look easy and difficult
plays look routine. The Bulldogs also had the 2008 CVCL Player
of the Year. The 2008 CVCL Player of the Year was awarded to
Kernersville Pitcher Greg Conrad. Conrad was outstanding on
the mound all season going undefeated for the Bulldogs with an overall
record of seven wins and zero losses. Other 2008 award
recipients included: 2008 Pitcher of the Year to Steve Edgerton
of the Catawba Valley Stars and 2008 Offensive Player of the Year
to two-time winner Casey Justice.
Several 2008 Bulldogs
Enjoy Record-Breaking Seasons
In a season where the 2008 Kernersville
Bulldogs set a franchise best for wins in a single season with 40,
several Bulldog players enjoyed individual record breaking seasons.
2008 CVCL Tournament MVP and Defensive Player of the Year Josh Strickland
enjoyed his best overall season for the Bulldogs. Strickland
batted .350 for the season and his 42 total hits are good enough to
put him in fourth place alone in the Bulldog record books for hits
in a single season. Outfielders Matt Hinson and Myles Pearl
also enjoyed outstanding seasons. Myles Pearl belted ten doubles
during 2008 which was good enough to tie him for third on the all-time
list. Pearl also has his name tied in the top spot for most
triples in a single season with his 2008 total of 5. Outfielder
Matt Hinson, the all-time record holder for homeruns in a single season,
now adds his name to the top spot of another offensive category.
Hinson now holds the all-time Bulldog record for doubles in a single
season with 12 after another strong 2008 campaign. First baseman
Nick Johnson enjoyed a strong offensive showing during 2008 with a
.290 batting average and a team-leading 4 homeruns. The 4 homers
place Johnson in a tie for third on the all-time homerun list.
On the mound, 2008 CVCL Player of the Year Greg Conrad earned seven
pitching victories in 2008. The 7 wins are good enough to place
him in a tie for second all-time for most victories in a season.
Reliever Nick Rogers collected 4 saves during 2008 and that earns
him a tie for fourth on the all-time list.
